Three dead in Reading following stabbing incident, police say it's not terror-related

Three people died and another three sustained serious injuries following a stabbing in Reading, southern England, on Saturday evening.

Thames Police said a 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Officers and other emergency services were called at the scene, in Forbury Gardens, at around 19:00 BST.

Detective Chief Superintendent Ian Hunter, Head of Crime, said police were not "looking for any other people in connection" with the incident, adding there was no further danger to the public.

The stabbing is not being treated as terror-related.

Neither has it been linked to the Black Lives Matter protest that took place in the area a few hours earlier.

Authorities said video footage of the incident had been captured on mobile phones. They urged people not to circulate it on social media and to use it to help the police instead.

The area was cordoned off and people urged to stay away.

Reading Council leader Councillor Jason Brock said he was "shocked and appalled" by the "horrific and senseless attack".

Home Secretary Priti Patel said she was "deeply concerned".

"My thoughts are with everyone involved, including police and emergency responders at the scene", she added.
